greek argosy illustrated
timeline
This graphic file may
take several moments to load.
This is an Internet version of the handy
pocket-size timeline our travelers carry with them to avoid becoming
lost in time. Depicted on the timeline are major eras of ancient
Greek history along with artifacts and historical sites we will
encounter during our travels.
This timeline might appear complicated
at first, but reading it is really quite simple:
-Go to the middle of the pictures, where
the actual timeline is located.
-Read the timeline from left to right, beginning at 3,000 BC
with the Minoan Civilization of Crete and its related city of
Akrotiri on the island of Santorini.
-Akrotiri is colored orange on the timeline, and its artifacts
are in the orange area. Minoan Civilization is purple on the
timeline, and its artifacts are in the purple area, which is
where you will also find a brief description of Minoan Civilization.
(Art figures from the Cyclades Islands date from even earlier.)
-Proceed toward the right to see the next era of Greek history,
the Mycenean Age, colored in green. Look above the timeline for
information about subsequent ages of ancient Greek history.
For more information about these eras
of Greek history, see the Annotated/Illustrated
Itinerary and the Brief
History of Ancient Greece.
